Aiken County jail expands opioid recovery efforts for inmates

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) – Through funding from the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund, the Aiken County Detention Center is now offering addiction recovery programs for inmates.

Peer support is now offered to offenders, but soon this program will be expanding with the addition of new staff members.

State Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Thursday that his office would be receiving a $100,000 grant from the Attorney General Alliance.

The jail will also expand through partnerships with the Aiken Center, which will provide an additional peer support specialist, and Aiken-Barnwell Mental Health, which will provide behavioral health counseling…
