A missing persons investigation that began in Brunswick County, N.C., has taken a grim turn with the arrest of a man in connection to the discovery of dismembered human remains in nearby Florence County, S.C.
Authorities have charged 56-year-old Charles Edward Antwine Jr. with desecration of human remains, but said additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, relatives had reported both Christy Thomas Ward and Charles Edward Antwine missing from their Brunswick County home last week.
