FEMA expands aid for wildfire and wind damage in Oklahoma

FEMA has announced that Oklahoma residents affected by the March wildfires and straight-line winds may now qualify for federal assistance—even if they initially were denied due to having insurance.

New eligibility for disaster-related aid

Residents in Cleveland, Creek, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Pawnee, and Payne counties who suffered losses from March 14–21, 2025, may be eligible for support if:

  • Their insurance claim was denied,
  • Their insurance payout didn’t cover essential needs, or
  • Their insurance decision is delayed more than 30 days.

While FEMA cannot duplicate insurance benefits, it can fill the gaps left by partial or delayed settlements.

What assistance is available?

Through FEMA’s Individual Assistance Program, applicants may qualify for:

  • Housing Assistance: Rental help, home repairs, or home replacement
  • Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Financial help for personal property, medical/dental costs, funeral expenses, child care, transportation, and more

How to apply or update your claim

Applicants must submit documentation showing the outcome of their insurance claim:

  • A denial letter
  • A settlement letter
  • A delay letter (if more than 30 days have passed with no decision)
