Houston unites to preserve African American heritage sites

HOUSTON (KIAH) – Harris County Precinct 2 is inviting the community to honor Juneteenth by volunteering to help preserve one of Houston’s most historic African American cemeteries.

The cleanup event will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Harrisburg Jackson Cemetery, located at 7800 Bowie St., Houston, TX 77023.

Harrisburg Jackson Cemetery is the final resting place for many formerly enslaved individuals and remains a symbol of strength and resilience in Houston’s East End.
