EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has issued a recreational use advisory for Fern Ridge Reservoir due to a cyanobacteria bloom.
OHA officials said that people should steer clear of swimming and high-speed water activities in affected areas to avoid ingesting toxins. These toxins are not absorbed through skin contact, but those with skin sensitivities may experience a rash. OHA advises against drinking water from bloom-affected areas, as boiling or filtering will not remove the toxins.
