GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Thousands of people are battling sickle cell disease in South Carolina, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Health. A blood donation center in Greenville said they’re concerned those patients aren’t getting the help they need.
Representatives with The Blood Connection in Greenville told 7NEWS they continue to see low blood donation numbers for sickle cell patients and they want it to change for World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. Sickle cell disease causes people to have blood cells that look like sickles or are crescent shaped.
