Search underway for man who jumped in water at Riverfront Park

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A search has begun for a man who jumped into the water Friday afternoon at Riverfront Park and has not resurfaced, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The call came in shortly before 3 p.m., according to Metro Dispatch. Units with the Nashville Fire Department and Metro officers are on the scene and are searching the surrounding area, according to an MNPD spokesperson.

MNPD officials said officers responded after learning a man jumped into the river and had not resurfaced. Witnesses said the man was sitting by the river with his feet in the water while others jumped in. A group of children reportedly encouraged him to jump in, according to MNPD.

No one on the scene believed the man jumped into the water to intentionally harm himself, and he was not pushed into the water, MNPD officials said…
