Deadline to apply for 2025 homestead exemption extended to July 21

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – Homeowners in Chatham County that have not yet applied for their 2025 homestead exemption will now have until July 21 to do so.

Homestead exemptions can lower property tax bills. The standard homestead exemption in Georgia grants $2,000 off from county and some school taxes, as long as the home is your primary residence. Homeowners in the City of Savannah are also eligible for the Stephens Day Exemption, which freezes your home value to its value at the time of purchase.
