Iowa City celebrates Juneteenth

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Juneteenth is the newest federal holiday, celebrating freedom and the end of slavery in the United States.

160 years ago today, union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the Civil War was over and enslaved African Americans were free.
