Buffalo couple honored as ‘Nana’ for preserving Black history

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Each year as part of Buffalo’s Juneteenth celebration, a couple is honored with the ceremonial title of “Nana.” It is a West African term of deep respect.

This year, that recognition goes to two longtime educators, storytellers, and champions of local Black history.
