Around 7:38 p.m., the Rancho Cordova Police Department said Southbound Sunrise Boulevard at Gold Country is closed because of a car crash and advised the public to use alternate routes.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the accident involved one vehicle that crashed into a tree. The driver, who was the only occupant, sustained major injuries. No other injuries were reported. Around 9:30 p.m., the driver was pronounced dead.
