SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy visited the control tower at the San Diego International Airport Thursday alongside the current head of the Federal Aviation Administration to highlight the need for updates to air traffic control systems.
The San Diego International Airport is the busiest single runway commercial airport in the country with about 200,000 departures and arrivals per year.
In a press conference after taking a tour of the facility, Duffy described the tower as in dire need of an upgrade, pointing to a leaky ceiling, shifty shades and outdated equipment from the 1970s and 1980s.
