Schenectady gun buyback event collects 367 firearms, including 147 assault weapons

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The former armory in Schenectady briefly transformed into an arsenal as 367 firearms were turned in during a “gun buyback” event at Armory Studios Saturday. Attorney General Letitia James announced the collection, which included 147 assault weapons and 65 long guns.

Police stated that individuals could surrender any gun, whether legal or illegal, with no questions asked.

Lt. Scott Bobrowich of the Schenectady Police Department explained the program’s appeal: “If people maybe had a death in the family where the family left guns behind that nobody else wants or has a permit or need for, or whatever the case, this is just an easy way to get rid of them free and clear and the get the incentive of a little money on the back end.”…
