Rockford-area families walk to honor the lives lost to a drug overdose

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Addiction is a terrible disease that has affected many families and claimed countless lives.

Saturday marked the 11th Drug Overdose Awareness Walk in Rockford. The walk was started by Rockford resident Becca Rogers. Rogers lost her brother to an overdose 11 years ago. To her, the walk lets people with similar stories know they are not alone.

“Sometimes when you go to a grief group and it’s not an overdose group, some people can say it was their fault maybe. It doesn’t feel as accepting so we wanted a place that is free of judgment,” said Rogers…
