Five Caltrans employees were recognized Saturday with the Governor’s State Employee Medal of Valor, which is awarded to public servants who perform an act of heroism above and beyond the normal call of duty or at personal risk to their own safety.
For District 8, highway maintenance worker and leadworker John Bedolla and Isai Camino, respectively, were awarded with the silver medal.
They received the distinction for rescuing a mother and her son from an overturned vehicle on Interstate 15 on Jan. 7 of last year. Bedolla helped the woman escape through the front windshield while Camino climbed onto the wreckage to help the boy to safety…
