Teenager fatally shot in Montgomery, police seek information

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBMA) — Montgomery police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teenager that occurred early Friday morning. Officers responded to the 5000 block of Greensboro Court, near Mobile Highway, around 2:30 a.m. and discovered 13-year-old Diamond Moore, of Montgomery, dead from a gunshot wound. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed expressed his sorrow and anger over the incident. “I am heartbroken and outraged by the tragic death of 13-year-old Diamond Moore—an innocent child whose life was taken far too soon,” Reed said. “No family should ever have to endure this kind of unimaginable loss, and no community should grow accustomed to this kind of senseless violence.”

Reed assured the public that he has spoken with Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys and that investigators are utilizing all available resources to find those responsible. “Diamond should be alive today. She should be enjoying her summer. Instead, her family is preparing for a funeral,” Reed said. “We will not accept this as normal in Montgomery. We will not allow violence to steal the futures of our children.”…
