Illinois Heat Alert: Chicago Faces 105°F Heat Index and Warm Nights Through Monday

Chicago, Illinois – Oppressive heat and humidity are gripping Illinois this weekend, with heat indices expected to soar above 105°F across much of the state through at least Monday. Cities including Chicago, Joliet, and Rockford will see little overnight relief, as temperatures remain in the upper 70s to low 80s even after sunset.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, this is the first major multi-day heat event of the year, with peak afternoon temperatures ranging from 93–97°F and extreme humidity pushing conditions into dangerous territory. Gusty southwest winds between 35–45 mph, especially near and north of I-80, will only worsen the discomfort.

In Chicago, the urban heat island effect will drive overnight lows near 80°F. Concrete and asphalt retain heat, increasing risk for vulnerable residents.
