Opinion: Take action, reduce your impact during Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July is a global movement encouraging the world’s population to pledge to avoid single-use plastics during July each year. The Plastic Free July movement encourages communities and individuals to take a pledge and actionable steps toward lessening their reliance on plastics by selecting plastic-free alternatives whenever possible.

In July 2024, City of Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice proclaimed the month as Plastic Free Month in the City of Spartanburg. In his proclamation, Mayor Rice acknowledged plastic’s role in air, soil, and water pollution, and environmental injustice, and encouraged residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce their plastic consumption and choose sustainable alternatives.

The global Plastic Free July movement promotes reducing reliance on single-use plastics just for the month of July each year to make small, impactful changes.
