Plastic Free July is a global movement encouraging the world’s population to pledge to avoid single-use plastics during July each year. In July 2024, City of Spartanburg Mayor Jerome Rice proclaimed the month as Plastic Free Month in the City of Spartanburg. In his proclamation, Mayor Rice acknowledged plastic’s role in air, soil, and water pollution, and environmental injustice, and encouraged residents and businesses to voluntarily reduce their plastic consumption and choose sustainable alternatives.
