Over $2,000 raised in naming contest as new bear enjoys warm welcome and poolside living
Folsom’s newest and hairiest resident now has a name, thanks to the enthusiastic support of the local community. During a special announcement Friday night at the City of Folsom’s Outdoor Movie Night and Zoo Open House, Mayor Sarah Aquino revealed that the winning name for the zoo’s newest bear is Matilda.
The name was selected through a public naming contest hosted by the Friends of the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, where supporters voted with their wallets, raising over $2,000 to benefit the care of Matilda and her lifelong companion, Herbie.
