‘Hootie Hoot’ the young screech owl on the road to recovery with Leander community’s help

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A young screech owl is now on the mend while learning how to navigate being an owl, and the Leander community is ensuring his recovery.

“Hootie Hoot” was found on a citizen’s front porch in the Vista Ridge neighborhood “not wanting to go anywhere,” the Leander Police Department said on social media.

Police said the citizen left some water out for the owl and left him alone. The citizen thought the owl drank some water and left, but then he was found 15 to 20 feet away from where he was originally found. That is when the the citizen contacted Leander Animal Services.

An animal services officer with the city checked on “Hootie Hoot” and “could tell something was not right.” The officer then contacted MoonShine Wildlife Rehabilitation to help the little owl out, according to police…
