Augusta commissioner abruptly resigns, citing health concerns and a message from God

Citing health issues and a message from God, Augusta District 4 Commissioner Alvin Mason resigned abruptly Tuesday during the city’s regular meeting.

Mason, 63, thanked his commission colleagues and the city where he “became a man” as a young U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Gordon in 1984.

“I’ve done all that I can do,” he said. “My mom said, and the Bible says, when you’ve done all you can do, then you stand, and you stand on the truth that you’ve always stood for.”…
