CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police officers dedicated a newly remodeled office space to a fallen officer who was shot and killed more than four decades ago.
The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) vowed never to forget fallen Narcotics Officer Sergeant Ruben Almanza was killed on July 27, 1984, as he attempted to arrest an armed robbery suspect. His assailant was shot and killed by another officer responding to the call. Almanza died the next day of his injuries.
As part of the dedication ceremony, CCPD Chief Mike Markle presented Almanza’s family with a newly designed badge, Almanza’s number 5435. The chief said Almanza’s number would be retired and not be issued to other detectives…
