A Wilmington homeless shelter offers heat relief ahead of heat advisory

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Wilmington, advising people to stay indoors and drink water. For the homeless, those tasks are not so easy.

Dawn Sheridan, case manager and program coordinator at First Fruit Ministry, says she sees more people looking to cool off from the heat.

“Last week we had 118 clients come in, and typically we have up to 90 clients on a normal Thursday day shelter,” Sheridan said…
