Florida doctor charged after allegedly stealing fentanyl from ICU patient

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida doctor has been formally charged with a felony after allegedly siphoning fentanyl from an ICU patient’s IV line during a night shift at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.

The State of Florida has officially charged a local physician on Monday with possession of fentanyl following a December 2024 incident at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. According to prosecutors, Dr. Sasha Boris Grek withdrew the powerful opioid directly from a patient’s IV line while on duty in the intensive care unit.

The case centers on the 52-year-old anesthesiologist and critical care physician, who was observed by colleagues exhibiting unusual behavior. Surveillance video, as well as a nurse’s cell phone recording, allegedly shows Dr. Grek withdrawing fentanyl from a patient’s infusion pump during a night shift…
