The Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association, located between 1st Ave. N. and 9th Ave. N. in St. Petersburg, is on a mission to bring more shade and greenery to its streets. The group recently launched a community fundraising effort to plant 30 new trees throughout the neighborhood, with the goal of raising $20,000 to make it happen.
So far, the effort has already brought in $2,000, which is enough to cover the cost of planting six trees. Each tree costs approximately $300 to plant, covering everything from sourcing and delivery to installation and care.
This initiative comes at a time when the neighborhood, like much of St. Pete, is facing higher temperatures, more frequent flooding, and the lasting effects of recent hurricane seasons. Organizers say the tree planting campaign is about more than aesthetics—it’s about safety, sustainability, and rebuilding the tree canopy that helps protect residents, pets, and wildlife.
