Moldy Cake Pops Shock Walmart Shopper

A TikTok user’s unpleasant Walmart experience has gone viral, sparking a wave of online discussion about food safety and the retail giant. Andrea N. Toseland (@andreatoseland) shared a video detailing her discovery of mold inside a box of lemon cake pops purchased at Walmart.

Toseland explained in the video that after arriving home, she bit into one of the cake pops and noticed an unusually strong lemon flavor. Upon closer inspection, she found the inside of the treat covered in mold. Further examination revealed that every cake pop in the box was similarly affected, despite the “fresh date” indicating they were still good for consumption.

The video quickly gained traction, accumulating over 89,000 views and numerous comments. While some viewers expressed disgust, others shared their own wariness about purchasing food from Walmart. Some comments even offered advice, suggesting Toseland file a report with various authorities, including the store management, corporate headquarters, health department, FDA, and Better Business Bureau.

The incident raises concerns about food storage practices at Walmart. While accidental ingestion of mold isn’t always harmful, according to dietitian Lillian Craggs-Dino, DHA, RDN, LDN, of the Cleveland Clinic, allergic reactions are possible and require attention. She advises anyone who has eaten moldy food to monitor for symptoms.

This incident serves as a reminder to consumers to carefully inspect food products before consumption.
