3 hospitalized after heat knocks out power to Bethlehem assisted living facility

BETHLEHEM — Three residents of the Albany Center assisted living facility at 141 Rockefeller Rd. were hospitalized after the power went out for several hours amid the dangerous heat that has been punishing the region.

Centers Health Care, which is affiliated with both Albany Center and a nursing home called the Delmar Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in the same complex, said both facilities lost power around 5:30 p.m. A spokesperson for Centers said a backup generator for the Delmar Center nursing home activated automatically while the generator for Albany Center required an electrician to operate.

Albany Sheriff Craig Apple said EMS crews from his office and other agencies were summoned to the complex around 6:45 p.m. for a reported power outage. Apple said residents were complaining of extreme heat while National Grid worked to restore power…
