Major renovation coming to Hillsborough High School thanks to penny sales tax

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The minute you step foot onto Hillsborough High School, it’s easy to see the half-cent sales tax referendum money hard at work.

Exposed trenches and piping show the huge scope of the project here on campus. The price tag on renovating an underground HVAC system built during the early 1900s, a little over 16 million dollars.

“Way back then when they built the original building, architecture was a little different; they probably thought it was a great idea to have it below grade to be more energy efficient. It’s been a challenge, and the equipment was definitely ready for upgrades and ready to be replaced,” said vp of JEDunn Curtis Delaquil…
