Cedar Rapids Celebrates America in Bloom/CN Railway Grant with Tree Planting on Mays Island, Unveils New “Cedar Rapids” Sign

The City of Cedar Rapids hosted a recognition event Tuesday, June 24, celebrating its latest America in Bloom/CN Railway grant, which funded the planting of 26 new trees on Mays Island — a milestone in the City’s ongoing urban forestry efforts. The grant, awarded in partnership with America in Bloom and CN Railway continues Cedar Rapids’ progress in restoring the tree canopy lost during the 2020 Derecho.

“The America in Bloom grant is a valuable addition to our ongoing efforts to restore Cedar Rapids’ tree canopy and make our downtown an even more welcoming reflection of the pride we take in our community.” said Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell.

City Manager Jeff Pomeranz noted how the America in Bloom grant and recent downtown enhancements reflect a broader community effort: “We have been intentional about making Mays Island a more welcoming place for everyone as part of our broader Downtown Vision Plan. These enhancements illustrate our City’s long-term vision and planning in action, showing how strong partnerships can bring ideas to life.”…
