SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Police Department (SPD) has named the suspect who was arrested over the weekend for murder.
According to court documents, Bodee Melton, 22, faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
According to the probable cause statement, on June 22, at 4:14 a.m., SPD was dispatched to 2034 W Webster Street for a report of someone having been shot. When police arrived, they found a person dead on the living room floor with several gunshot wounds. He was identified as Lavontae Bennett, 19.
Witnesses say a group of people were in the house arguing because one of the guests was flirting with Bennett’s mother. Some of the people in the argument had a firearm on them, including Melton. The fight seemingly ended when Bennett left the residence, but he returned to speak with Melton again inside the home…
