Public asked to report suspicious fire activity in the bosque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Community leaders spoke to the media on Tuesday about the man-made fires that have popped up around the bosque and how the community can help prevent them. In the past week, there have been at least six fires recorded in the bosque in Albuquerque alone. Police have a man in custody who is suspected of starting at least one of those blazes.

Arsonists are just one thing firefighters are concerned about, with Independence Day just around the corner. “What you see all of those firework tents that are up in Albuquerque right now, we regulate all of those and make sure that they’re legal for sale in Albuquerque. However, fireworks of all kinds are prohibited in open space areas,” said Albuquerque Fire Rescue Chief Emily Jaramillo.

They are also asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 311 and report it. The city and county have officers patrolling the bosque along the shore, and by boat on the water…
