12 brush fires set intentionally along popular Spokane recreation area

SPOKANE, Wash. — Fire crews put out another brush fire along Upriver Drive on Tuesday. It was the 12th fire set on purpose in the area this month.

The Department of Natural Resources fought the latest fire. Fire officials say all 12 fires have been set between the Camp Sekani biking trails and Boulder Beach, a popular spot for outdoor activities.

“There can be a lot of damage to life and property. And that’s our number one concern. Keeping everybody safe. It’s an enjoyable place for a lot to recreate,” said Captain Jeff Higens of Spokane County Fire District 9…
