Governor signs bill giving Newark the authority to tax UD

After a year and a half of lobbying, the City of Newark finally has the authority to levy a per-student tax on the University of Delaware.

On Tuesday, Gov. Matt Meyer signed House Bill 34, which permits Newark to charge UD a tax of up to $50 per student per semester. The tax will apply to all undergraduate and graduate students who take classes in Newark, including part-time students. It will not apply to the shorter winter and summer sessions.
