LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – As Independence Day nears, the Lincoln Police Department is reminding residents to keep their celebrations fun and safe.
When can you light fireworks in Lincoln?
- July 3: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- July 4: 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
Outside of those hours? Leave them in the box.
There are some other rules people should pay attention to if lighting fireworks.
- Fireworks are only allowed during the approved times listed above.
- Illegal items include bottle rockets, sky lanterns and helicopters.
- You must be 18 or older to buy or use fireworks, unless supervised by an adult.
- Never aim fireworks at people, vehicles, buildings or light them in the street.
While it is easy to get caught up in the red, white and blue booms, Lincoln Police say safety should come first. It is important to have back up plans in mind: keeping water nearby if something goes wrong, only lighting one firework at a time, never relight duds and leave the aerial show to the professionals…
