Godfather’s Pizza returns to San Antonio scene after 35 years

It turns out you can go home again. After a 35-year absence from San Antonio, nostalgic pizza chain Godfather’s Pizza returned to Alamo City on June 23 with a store at 8530 SH 151 Access Rd.

Generation X locals need no introduction to the brand. In the ’80s, Godfather’s Pizza was a staple of local life. According to the San Antonio Report, the chain once boasted 20 area storefronts. Most were shuttered by the end of the decade as part of a nationwide purge of underperforming locations.

San Antonians of a certain age are likely to remember the pizzeria for its commercials as much as its buffets. The campy ads featured a parody of The Godfather II’s Don Fanucci, often surrounded by a trio of musical molls…
