San Antonio Man Receives 45-Year Sentence for Murdering Wife at Northwest Side Apartment

Carlos Portillo has been sentenced to a 45-year prison term for the 2024 murder of his wife, Sheila Jo Portillo Hanks, at their Northwest Side apartment. The incident, which took place in January 2024, at the Oak Creek Apartments on Vance Jackson Road, led to law enforcement finding Portillo covered in blood and “behaving erratically” outside of the complex, as reported by KSAT.

Illegal drugs were also found in the apartment along with the body of Hanks, who suffered an apparent gunshot wound. “The horrific act of taking a loved one’s life cannot go unpunished,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzalez stated, emphasizing the severity of the crime, and the prosecution’s commitment to justice. Portillo had previously confirmed to San Antonio police that the blood found at the scene was indeed his wife’s, as per report by KSAT.
