Mecklenburg County Sheriff McFadden responds to Gov. Stein’s veto of immigration bill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden is pleased with Governor Josh Stein’s decision to veto HB 318, which increases cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration agents.

It also incentivizes municipalities and counties to enforce immigration law.

“It is evident Governor Stein understands that the county taxpayer will bear the entire cost of the 48-hour additional stay even after these individuals would have met all the criteria for their release,” McFadden writes…
