CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There is no better way to cool off than sit inside with the AC blasting. But not everyone has that luxury, especially those in apartments. The group Action NC says it is trying to change that. They estimate at least 7,500 rental units in Charlotte don’t have air conditioning.
Earlier this year, they asked Charlotte City Council to mandate all apartments have some sort of AC. They aren’t asking for a full-duct air conditioner, but having a split AC in the units is easier and more affordable. Action NC’s Robert Dawkins says, “We’re not saying that you’ve got to make it a crisp 60 degrees in the house, but if it’s 102 outside, you should at least be able to get it to, I don’t know, somewhere in the 70s.”…
