Lancaster County hazmat team closing down after 42 years of service

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Lancaster County’s contracted hazmat team is closing down after 42 years of service.

The volunteers of Hazmat 2 Environmental Fire Rescue announced in a Facebook post that they offered to extend their contract with Lancaster County. The volunteers say the offer was declined and countered with a change that proposed adding a “significant additional administrative workload on our volunteers.”

The team says they will vacate their building on June 30 and will “cease to be” the county’s hazardous materials response team…
