A Summerfield man was arrested for driving without a license when he was spotted using a golf cart in the dark near the Boone Gate on the Historic Side of The Villages.
An officer spotted 55-year-old David John Kotowski on a red golf cart without headlights or taillights at 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He headed north on Paradise Drive, crossing the intersection of Wales Plaza after dark.
A traffic stop was conducted for this violation at Paradise Drive and West Boone Court. Kotowski handed the officer an ID card, and a record check revealed multiple suspensions against his driving privileges. His offenses included DUI and narcotics violations, among other things, the report said.
When told he was going to be arrested, Kotowski stated he did not know that he needed a license to drive a golf cart. He was unaware the laws had changed regarding the operation of golf carts on the road, which now required a valid license, the report said…
