DEL RIO, Texas — A traffic stop in Maverick County led to the arrest of a criminal illegal immigrant wanted in Colorado for violent offenses, including attempted murder, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
On June 19, 2025, a DPS Trooper stopped a white Toyota RAV4 SUV on US-57 in Eagle Pass for a traffic violation. During the stop, the Trooper discovered the driver was smuggling an illegal immigrant, identified as 42-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera Garcia, of Honduras, with assistance from Border Patrol. Further investigation revealed Rivera Garcia was wanted in Arapahoe County, Colorado, for attempted murder, domestic assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, and child abuse knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury.
