AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Police Department released safety tips for residents on how to stay safe during the July 4th holiday. APD reminds residents that fireworks are banned within Amarillo city limits.
APD explained that each year, illegal fireworks cause fires, injuries, frightened pets, and property damage. Officials added that in some cases, firework-related injuries can result in serious injuries or death.
Amarillo Zoo’s lion, Solomon, dies at 20
Amarillo Municipal Code Section 5610 prohibits the use, possession, or sale of fireworks in the city. Violations can result in:
- Confiscation of fireworks
- Citations or other legal consequences
- Criminal or civil liability if someone is hurt or property is damaged
This isn’t just a city ordinance; APD explained that Texas state law Occupations Code 2154.251 also bans fireworks near schools, churches, hospitals, child care centers, gas stations, and vehicles.
Officials said fireworks can severely affect veterans, children, pets, and individuals with sensory sensitivities. APD encourages residents to celebrate responsibly and leave the fireworks to the professionals…
