Jami Resch sworn in as Springfield’s newest Police Chief

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Jami Resch was sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the City of Springfield on July 25. She has been the interim police chief since March 17 before being officially sworn in.

Resch is the first woman to serve as Chief of Police in Springfield’s history. She’s taking over for Chief Andrew Shearer who turned in his resignation earlier this year. Resch joined the Springfield Police Department in 2023, bringing with her more than 20 years of experience working for the Portland Police Bureau. Resch served the Portland Police Bureau for 24 Years, being sworn in as Chief of Police of the city of Portland in 2019. She Is A Graduate Of The FBI National Executive Institute And The Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute For Police.

Resch said she wants her tenure with the department to be associated with good, quality police work.

“I want them to do good police work,” Resch said. “And the other day someone asked me ‘what’s good police work?’ and to me good police work is, when somebody calls for whatever reason it is. They feel like the officer has responded, they helped them the best way they could, they were treated fairly, that they were listened to and that they were respected.”…
