Girl Scouts paddle alongside sailors during Anchorage Navy Week

CHUGIAK, Alaska (KTUU) – A day on the lake is a quintessential part of any camp experience — but for campers at Girl Scout Camp Singing Hills, Anchorage Navy Week provided a special chance to boat alongside real-life sailors.

“We love to partner with other agencies, organizations, military groups, just to give girls an opportunity to get exposed to different things,” Girl Scouts of Alaska CEO Hillary Patterson said. “This has been a great opportunity for them to learn more about the Navy and what kind of opportunities they offer… [from] cybersecurity all the way to oceanography and things like that.”

Many of the visiting sailors are homegrown Alaskans themselves. One by one, they took small groups of campers out on canoes and paddle boats…
