New Mexico online corral for wild horses and burros opens in July

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — An online auction is giving the people of New Mexico a chance to adopt or purchase a wild horse or burro. The Bureau of Land Management’s Online Corral is being held from July 14 to 21. Those animals will then be available for pickup on Aug. 28 at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Posse Arena.

This auction takes place virtually where adopters/purchasers are able to browse through wild horses and burros, submit applications and place bids from home. These wild horses and burros come from herds on public lands in the western United States. Most of the animals offered are untrained and unhandled.

“This unique event gives the people of Albuquerque and the surrounding region a convenient opportunity to provide a good home to a wild horse or burro,” said off-range branch chief for the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program Annie Ebbers. “Adopters can gain a rewarding experience with a wild horse or burro while also helping to support the BLM’s mission to manage and protect these iconic animals and the public lands they inhabit.”…
