Feds move to dismiss charges against former Erie Coke supervisor

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh has requested the dismissal of charges against a former supervisor at Erie Coke.

David Stablein, 56, of Fairview Township man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Clean Air Act in 2023, admitting to removing flue caps from coal ovens and releasing pollutants into the air.

Just last week, Erie Coke pleaded guilty to illegal air pollution and agreed to pay a 700 thousand dollar fine.

The former plant superintendent, Anthony Nearhoof, still faces prosecution.
