Nonprofit embezzler who ‘betrayed vulnerable families’ pleads guilty

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The former finance director of a nonprofit that prepared Grand Rapids children for kindergarten pleaded guilty Wednesday in an embezzlement scheme that forced the agency’s closure.

Sharon Killebrew, 69, entered a guilty plea in federal court in Lansing to conspiracy to commit an offense and tax evasion.

From 2016 through 2023, Killebrew and a co-conspirator embezzled $1.17 million from the Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative, according to federal court documents.
