BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — One of the top law enforcement groups in Alabama has plans take away Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith’s certification as a law enforcement officer.
On Thursday, the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission unanimously voted to send notice to Smith and Ralph Williams, Smith’s chief deputy at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, about their plans to rescind their designations as police officers.
The vote comes as Smith and Williams were both recently arrested earlier this month and charged with hiring different deputies as school resource officers, despite them not being properly accredited, the APOSTC reports…
