Wichita woman accused in child’s shooting death set for September trial

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita woman charged in connection with the shooting death of a 7-year-old boy will go to trial this fall.

Tasha Dillard was arraigned Thursday and is scheduled to stand trial on Sept. 15. She is charged with first-degree murder and six counts of aggravated child endangerment in the March 16 death of Davion Gunter Jr.

Man sentenced to 50 years for Wichita woman’s murder

Police say Gunter was shot just after midnight inside a southeast Wichita apartment in the 3700 block of E. Ross Parkway. According to court documents, Dillard and several other adults were drinking tequila in a parked car while young children—ranging in age from 1 to 9—were left unsupervised inside the apartment. At some point, a 4-year-old reportedly found a firearm and accidentally shot Gunter.

Investigators say the gun may have been in Dillard’s purse. According to the probable cause affidavit, Dillard initially denied owning a gun but later acknowledged there could be firearm accessories in the kitchen left behind by her children’s father…
