Sheriff: Troy woman stashed 14 dead Chihuahuas in vehicle after they died from heat in RV

BETHLEHEM — A 39-year-old Troy woman has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after 14 dead dogs were found in the trunk of a car.

Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies responded about a week ago to a call about a foul odor coming from the trunk of a vehicle in Halfmoon, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said Thursday. Inside the trunk, officers found 14 dead Chihuahuas in black garbage bags.

The vehicle’s owner told deputies the dogs belonged to his girlfriend, Apple said. The case then moved to his office, where the woman told deputies she had left the dogs overnight from June 6 to June 7 in a recreational vehicle outside the Quality Inn and Suites in Bethlehem, he said.
